and the Station 12 Inmarsat D+ Facility |
As an airtime provider for Station 12 Inmarsat D+, worldcruising.net is able to supply the complete position reporting package with an Inmarsat D+ unit pre-programmed to report to the worldcuising.net mailbox.
Inmarsat D+ is an extremely simple yet effective piece of equipment which will leave users confident in the knowledge that their co-ordinates are being recorded at a relatively low cost without the need for manual input.
What is Inmarsat D+?
Inmarsat D+ is a proven
communication system which has been developed to bring affordable, *global
position reporting to the marine environment.
The D+ system consists of a
live unit approximately 160x160x40mm, and a small externally mounted
antenna.

Similar to a pager, the D+ unit
transmits a position report at pre-set intervals using its own integrated
GPS, via the Inmarsat Satellite Network.
D+ benefits from being small,
compact, lightweight and extremely easy to install.
The system consumes a
relatively low DC power supply.
Once activated the D+ Unit
will then transmit at the set interval, with no manual input.
It is possible for the polling
times and frequency to be changed remotely by the worldcruising.net
administrator.

Along with full global
coverage, it is anticipated that a text messaging service will be available to
D+ users in the future, providing an extremely low cost position reporting and
short messaging service in comparison to other systems.
One-off purchase. The unit can
be removed and replaced easily in another vessel.
