Introduction to StruMap

General
Strumap is a Windows GIS that allows users to view, access and analyse map (geo-referenced) data. The software can be supplied in a number of different formats depending upon the range of tasks individual users need to access. It can be used as a simple map viewer or as a very powerful data analysis tool.

This getting started guide covers the basics of the standard product.
 

 
The Map Screen

This is the main map window, from here you can control the way you see the map.



 
 


Toolbar Icons and Descriptions

Navigation

Zoom into an area

Zoom in 20%

Zoom out 25%

Return to the previous zoom level

Zoom to extents

Pan left (large or small step - set via display settings)

Pan right

Pan up

Pan down

Increase the size of text

Decrease the size of text

Reset the size of text

Other Controls

Select the event you wish to view from the list, otherwise select "ALL" to have the possibility to view all boats from all events.
 

Select the boat whose movements you wish to view, otherwise select "ALL" to view all available boats.
 

This option allows you to remove current boats from the map prior to showing the current selection from the lists.  Leave this checkbox cleared to add boats to the current map.
 

Having made selections from the list boxes (Select Event and Select Boat) press this button to show your current selection on the map.
 

Exits the mapping application.
